From spring to fall, nesting birds fly and chatter overhead. Many varieties of birds can be seen year-round. Please respect this beautiful place.
Walk only on sand or bare rock

Haystack Rock is one of only a few places on the west coast where Tufted Puffins nest from April through August.
Located on the North coast of Oregon, Haystack Rock is a unique rocky outcrop , that attracts wildlife and tourists alike.
Haystack Rock was first created some 15 to 17 million years ago as basaltic lava flowed through the old Columbia River drainage system from Eastern Washington.
These are similar lavas to what you see along the Columbia River gorge.
These basalt lavas mixed with soft marine sediments. Erosion and uplift eventually revealed it and the many other large stone formations along the coast.
